Affordable Care Act (ACA)
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, as amended by the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (collectively the Affordable Care Act) has three objectives: to increase health care accessibility, affordability and quality.
In order to reach these objectives, the Affordable Care Act relies on the implementation and enforcement of the individual responsibility and the employer shared responsibility.
As part of Health Care Reform, Small businesses have the option to purchase medical insurance through the state exchange. Brokers need to be appointed and certified by NYS to work with businesses within the Exchange. The Evans Agency has been officially certified to participate in the New York Small Group Health Options Exchange. Kathleen Armstrong and Pam Sikorski are now certified for the NY Exchange which opened on October 1, 2013.
