We believe each associate plays a key role in the success of Evans. We strive to provide a workplace that is a safe, inclusive environment that fosters each individual’s uniqueness. Here we share the key elements of this foundation.
Equal Opportunity Employer
Equal Employment Opportunity has been, and will continue to be, a fundamental principle at Evans and its subsidiaries, where employment is based upon personal capabilities and qualifications without discrimination on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, marital status, citizenship status, military status, sexual orientation, victims of domestic violence, protected veterans status, gender identity, genetic information, genetic predisposition or carrier status and any other category protected by law. This policy of Equal Employment Opportunity applies to all policies and procedures relating to recruitment and hiring, compensation, benefits, termination and all other terms and conditions of employment. This includes compensation based upon external and internal job worth in order to provide fair and competitive wages to associates. For more information on this topic, please click here.
Diversity & Inclusion at Evans
Evans is committed to ensuring that diversity and inclusion is a top priority. Our goal is to attract, develop, and retain the most qualified individuals from all backgrounds. This requires a culture of inclusion which expects all associates to embrace and value diversity; and cultivate strong relationships with community groups.
Diversity encompasses differences and similarities that make up a wider community whether it is identities, backgrounds, experiences or points of view. It is not about removing barriers for some, it is about creating opportunity for all.
Our associate lead Evans Diversity & Inclusion Council is responsible for developing actions and championing efforts in providing a workplace environment that recognizes each associates’ value and creating the opportunity for a mutually rewarding relationship.
A Safe Workplace
We maintain a zero tolerance policy regarding harassment or discriminatory conduct which is based on race, color, creed, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, marital status, citizenship status, military status, sexual orientation, victims of domestic violence, protected veterans status, gender identify, genetic information, genetic predisposition or carrier status and any other category protected by law. Our non-discrimination and anti-harassment policy also prohibits harassment or discrimination by a supervisor, employee, client / customer, visitor or representative of business with whom we interact as part of our job responsibilities. It is to ensure that all associates are free from harassment or discrimination on the basis of sex, gender or any other basis.
Evans provides training on this area at least on an annual basis for all staff and annually informs each registered vendor of our commitment to anti-harassment, non-discrimination, equal employment practices and our commitment to diversity and inclusion, and the role they have in these areas.
We also work within the high standard developed by our Code of Conduct Policy.
Your Experience With Us
Each associate begins their Evans career through a structured onboarding program designed by both our Employee Experience Team and the direct Manager of the position. You will receive information on our systems, programs, processes, our company culture and how we work at Evans. After your initial learning, you will then meet with your Manager regularly throughout the year for coaching discussions. Through these sessions you will discuss recent positive events and results, any challenges, align on priorities while discussing progress made against goals and projects before closing out the session in discussing efforts in your continued professional development. We don’t believe in annual performance reviews. We would rather invest in your development throughout the year and learn your feedback through employee surveys and focus groups. We strive to learn the thoughts, ideas and suggestions of our associates. We then share the findings along with actions developed in a timely fashion. With this approach, we have been honored with the Best Place to Work in WNY by our associates for the last five years.
